Amherst Garden Club

Gardening Superheros!

The Amherst Garden Club celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1971. In celebration of this event, the club planted a dogwood tree at the corner of Mack Hill/ Dodge Road/Jones Road with a very comfortable granite bench for one to sit.

With over 125 members, the organization maintains gardens in eleven locations around Amherst. Their members can be considered “gardening superheroes” for all they do to beautify our town. During the pandemic gardeners could be found safely working in their assigned civic garden. Getting outside and working the soil is what they do best! It felt good to be outside after the long winter. The gardens will be full of summer blooms.

The Amherst Garden Club rose to the occasion during the pandemic, holding their monthly meetings with speakers on Zoom and pulling together an amazing plant sale all on line with curbside pick up! Nothing slows this amazing group of women and men down, not even a pandemic…they are superheroes for our town!

This years display at the parade includes giant flowers, representing our gardening prowess! These gorgeous flowers were handmade by club members for the parade. Current and past presidents, as well as other officers and club members, wave to passing vehicles at this years reverse parade. Happy July 4th Amherst!
